G.H. Wilmes Maori Youth Scholarship

On 6. June 2017 N3T, a subsidiary of NIC, has launched its first Maori Youth Scholarship .

The Scholarship is in memory of G.H. Wilmes, a visionary woman dedicated to excellence and youth development.

Our next intake for 2018 will be in Q4Y18. If you like to apply for the scholarship, please fill in the following form. Our first cohort started mid June 2017.

We plan to take on additional young people as we progress and learn. If you are interested or know someone who may be interested, please contact us.

The goal of the initial G.H. Wilmes Maori Youth Scholarship is to get young Maori upskilled in digital technologies and assist them to find a value adding job in Tai Tokerau.

The delivery of the scholarship is a collaboration of N3T, Te Kapehu Whetu School and our Filipino Partner Virtualahan, driven by social entrepreneur Ryan Gersava.

The scholarship will start with a six week intense learning schedule, followed by three months support to transition the scholarship recipient into a fulfilling, paying job in Tai Tokerau.

I like this quote by Muhamed Yunus, Nobel Peace Price Winner and microfinance pioneer

“All human beings are entrepreneurs. When we were in the caves, we were all self-employed … finding our food, feeding ourselves. That’s where human history began. As civilisation came, we suppressed it. We became “labor” because they stamped us, “You are labor”. We forgot that we are entrepreneurs.”
