To celebrate the progression of Tai Tokerau’s entrepreneurs, we invited to our annual Xmas Entrepreneur & Investor drinks. It was a nice wrap-up of busy and successful mentoring year.

Our next free, business mentoring session can be booked here. Please come with plenty of ideas and invite your innovator friends as well. We love to meet you and see if we can connect or assist you to build your dream business.

The first technology job fair was held on 10. Dec at Te Kapehu Whetu (TKW).

Over thirty Year 9-11 students were joined by six local technology companies for job speed dating.

For about two years The Northland Innovation Centre (NIC) and the Flying Kiwi Angel Association (FKA) have been running free business mentoring sessions in Northland. You can join us every first Tuesday in the month from 4-6pm at Te Kapehu Whetu’s InnoNative Business Hub in 187 Lower Dent Street in Whangarei. What you tell the experienced mentors stays in the room (Chatham House Rules) and usually you get good tips on your next steps or get connected to other folks who can help you. We rotate our mentors and have technology entrepreneurs, accountants, lawyers, bankers and Maori business women/ men assisting us to support YOU, the inventor, entrepreneur … and Peter Beck/ RocketLab, Peter Jackson/ Weta in-waiting.

We had the following business categories, gender and age distribution.

FKA was also involved with a strong angel contingent at the successful Investment Demo Day organised by Northland Inc and NZTE.

We were introduced to the following cool, aspiring Northland businesses:

  • Tankful – the Nest style smart sensor for your water tank
  • 100 Rails – SaaS for scaffolding businesses
  • Kiwi Goa – cool last mile solution
  • Developer Institute – talent-as-a-service for aspiring local IT developers
  • Earth Kitchen – natural sunscreen which doesn’t bleach coral
  • Engin – SaaS for SME productivity gains
  • Akudos – award management solution

Matthias and I in particularly enjoyed the breakfast with the innovators the day after the investment showcase. Thanks to the awesome teams of Northland Inc and NZTE for hosting this. We should do more causal networking events with innovators, talent and investors.
